eligibility criteria

- Grants can be made only to organizations or institutions that are registered with Canada Revenue Agency as “educational” or “charitable” under the Federal Income Tax Act, and that are in possession of a business number in good standing as of the date of the application.
- Organizations may receive only three grants in any five year period. For organizations that received grants since Fall 2004, their five year period begins with Fall 2004.
- The Foundation considers applications only for events or projects that conclude after June 1st (for March applicants) and after December 1st (for September applicants).
- The Foundation makes grants directly to eligible individuals only through the Leon and Thea Koerner Award in the Fine and Performing Arts.
- The Foundation does not consider applications:
- for major capital expenditures such as building construction and renovation,
- to cover routine operating costs,
- for capital campaigns,
- to support operational deficit reduction,
- for environmental causes,
- for scholarships and/or bursaries,
- for third party grants,
- to support direct advocacy,
- to support the organization of conferences, or
- to cover costs of journals beyond their first two years of publication.
